The combination of pravastatin and paroxetine significantly increases the risk of developing high blood sugar.
This may be partly true...statins (pravastatin, lovastatin, atorvastatin, etc) may increase the risk of high blood sugar and diabetes.
But there’s no good evidence that adding the “SSRI,” paroxetine (Paxil, etc), to the mix puts patients at even higher risk for having high blood sugar.
The theory is that both drugs affect glucose breakdown...and therefore might synergistically increase glucose levels.
