The American Academy of Neurology just released new dementia guidelines that urge earlier intervention for Alzheimer's.
The goal is to identify and treat patients as soon as possible...to slow disease progression and delay placement in a nursing home.
Cholinesterase inhibitors (Aricept, etc) are to be started early...to improve cognition and slow progression in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's.
