New quinolone antibiotic called Zagam (sparfloxacin)

Rhone-Poulenc Rorer is coming out with a new quinolone antibiotic called Zagam (sparfloxacin).

It was recently approved by the FDA for pneumonia or bronchitis. It's also being considered by the HPB.

Zagam has good activity against gram-positive bacteria... including penicillin-resistant Strep pneumoniae.
