ORAL vitamin K (phytonadione) is now recommended to reverse warfarin's anticoagulant effects in most patients.
Experts used to recommend giving vitamin K by injection. But SC and IM injections can have an unpredictable and delayed effect... and IV injections can cause severe allergic reactions.
Most patients can be managed simply by holding their warfarin dose and giving oral vitamin K to decrease bleeding times.
