Many patients use glucosamine for osteoarthritis. It reduces joint pain...possibly by stimulating the formation and repair of cartilage.
Animal studies suggest that glucosamine can raise blood glucose by increasing insulin resistance. There are also anecdotal reports of poorer control in diabetics who take glucosamine.
