You'll see a new prescription "nail polish" called Penlac... for treating fingernail and toenail fungal infections (onychomycosis).
It contains ciclopirox...the same antifungal in Loprox and Stieprox. But patients brush Penlac on their nails like a nail polish.
Penlac will be promoted as an alternative to oral antifungals (terbinafine, itraconazole) because it costs less and doesn't cause systemic side effects.
