which oral erythromycin to dispense
There's confusion about which oral erythromycin to dispense...due to different ingredients, dosage forms, and changing NDC numbers.
Ingredients. Avoid mix-ups with the different erythromycin forms...erythromycin base, erythromycin stearate, and erythromycin ethylsuccinate. For example, PCE is erythromycin base...E.E.S. is erythromycin ethylsuccinate...and Erythrocin is erythromycin stearate.
Alert the pharmacist to Rxs written just as "erythromycin." All erythromycin forms are dosed several times a day...plus the base and stearate forms both come in 250 mg and 500 mg tabs.
