HIGHER blood pressure numbers in some elderly patients

You'll hear it's now okay to aim for HIGHER blood pressure numbers in some elderly patients. Actually, it's often desirable.

High blood pressure can be tricky to treat in older patients. Blood pressure readings often vary...and the elderly are prone to dizziness and falls if blood pressure drops too low.

Most aim for a blood pressure reading of 140/90...which is the same as for younger patients. But sometimes it's okay to have higher numbers, such as in patients over 80...those with dizziness...or if blood pressure drops when the patient stands up.
