Belbuca Is a Buccal Form of Buprenorphine for Chronic Pain

The new Belbuca (bel-BYOO-kah, buprenorphine) buccal film will join the BuTrans patch as an Rx option for treating chronic pain.

Expect patients who haven't been on an opioid in the past to start with Belbuca 75 mcg once or twice daily...then titrate to BID dosing at higher doses as needed for pain relief.

Alert the pharmacist if you see Belbuca being used "as needed"...it's not approved to be used this way.
