Prevent Mishaps With Hypothyroid Meds

Rxs for hypothyroid meds (Synthroid, etc) are still causing confusion...due to different formulations, dosing units, and strengths.

Formulations. Be aware that it's generally okay for patients to switch levothyroxine products (Synthroid, Eltroxin, etc) if needed. They are generally considered equivalent to each other by Health Canada.

But get your pharmacist involved before making any changes. A switch could cause small fluctuations in thyroid hormone levels...especially if the patient has been on one manufacturer for a while.
