Mishaps with meds that have "extended-release" suffixes (CD, SR, XL, etc) will put more focus on preventing errors.

These suffixes usually mean that the drug has a special "modified-release" mechanism that alters how and where a drug is released in the body.

But there's no standard definition for extended-release suffixes...and meds with the same suffixes can differ in how they're taken and released and whether they can be substituted.
