Be Prepared for Med Changes for Patients With Asthma
Patients with asthma will have new criteria for starting a daily inhaled steroid.
We usually see these patients start a daily inhaled steroid or "controller" med (beclomethasone, etc) when they need a PRN "reliever" med (salbutamol) more than THREE times per week.
Now new Canadian guidelines recommend starting a controller med earlier...such as when a reliever med is used more than TWO times per week.
