We're getting lots of calls about whether patients can still take erythromycin before dental procedures to prevent bacterial endocarditis.
The American Heart Assoc used to recommend erythromycin for patients who were allergic to penicillin.
But it's no longer recommended, because erythromycin causes so much GI upset...and there was too much confusion over how to dose the different formulations (EES, stearate, etc).
