It actually contains TWO protease inhibitors...lopinavir and a low dose of ritonavir (Norvir).

Lopinavir is the active antiviral. Ritonavir is added to inhibit the metabolism of lopinavir, resulting in higher and more sustained drug levels. This allows Kaletra to be taken just BID.
