The new Aplenzin (uh-PLEN-zin) will add confusion about which bupropion product to choose from the pharmacy shelf.
Aplenzin is bupropion hydroBROMIDE. Wellbutrin SR, Wellbutrin XL, Zyban, etc are bupropion hydroCHLORIDE.
The only advantage to Aplenzin is that patients can take just one tablet a day...even at higher doses. Patients on Wellbutrin XL need multiple tablets if they take over 300 mg/day.
