Sliding scale insulin orders are still causing confusion about days' supply...even though these Rxs are falling out of favour.
Calculating days' supply for these orders can seem complicated...since doses may change from day to day or from one meal to the next.
For example, patients may be instructed to administer 2 units of regular insulin if their blood sugar is between 10-13 mmol/L... 4 units if between 13.1-17 mmol/L...or 6 units if between 17.1-20 mmol/L.
