Keep in Mind That Codeine Should Be Avoided in Kids

New restrictions will limit the use of codeine and hydrocodone in children.

Codeine is already contraindicated in kids under 12 years for ANY indication. Now Health Canada will expand this to include adolescents and teens under 18 years for surgery pain after the removal of adenoids or tonsils.

Health Canada also recommends not using hydrocodone cough meds (Tussionex, etc) in children under 6 years.
