We're getting questions about whether it's okay to use ASA (aspirin) to reduce cardiovascular risk in patients with a prior stomach bleed.

ASA thins the blood to help prevent heart attacks and strokes. But it's tricky to predict when ASA's heart benefits will outweigh bleeding risks...especially if the patient has had a stomach bleed.

In some cases, it's safe to restart ASA about 3 days after bleeding stops. But in others, the potential for bleeding is too high.
