Many COPD patients use Advair, Breo, or Symbicort to treat wheezing and other persistent symptoms. These inhalers combine a steroid plus a long-acting bronchodilator.

But these inhaled steroid combos are falling out of favour. They increase the risk of pneumonia...and they're not as good at preventing flare-ups as combining two long-acting bronchodilators.
