We're getting questions about the meds used to treat "orthostatic hypotension," or dangerous drops in blood pressure upon standing.

Fludrocortisone (Florinef, etc) boosts blood pressure by causing sodium and water retention.

Pay extra attention to decimal points and dosage on fludrocortisone Rxs. Most patients with orthostatic hypotension will get 0.1 mg PO daily...but in rare cases, doses up to 1 mg daily may be needed.
