Help Prevent Common Inhaler Errors

Only one in three patients use their inhaler correctly.

Incorrect dose preparation can occur because directions differ for metered-dose (MDI), dry-powder (DPI), and soft-mist (SMI) inhalers.

Use labelling to remind patients about proper use. Include a "shake well" label on most MDIs (Ventolin HFA, etc). Shaking mixes the med with the propellant to help carry the med to the lungs.
