Alert Your Pharmacist if You See a Tramadol Rx for a Child
Health Canada will continue warning about "respiratory depression" in kids taking tramadol.
Tramadol isn't approved for kids under 18 years...but it's sometimes used off-label, particularly after surgery to remove tonsils or adenoids.
The problem is that some patients are "ultrarapid metabolizers." They convert tramadol to an active metabolite faster and more completely than other people...and may develop toxic blood levels.
