Be Aware It's Usually Better to Leave Earwax Alone

New guidelines will lead to new questions about removing earwax.

It's usually better to leave earwax alone unless it's causing problems, such as hearing loss, ear fullness, or ear ringing.

But if a wax remover is desired, expect your pharmacist to suggest one of several options...such as carbamide peroxide (Murine, etc), hydrogen peroxide, olive oil, docusate liquid, or even water. There's no good evidence that one works better than another.
