Help With Safe Opioid Use in Pregnant Patients
You'll hear growing concerns about opioid use in pregnancy.
Opioids (oxycodone, etc) in early pregnancy are linked to birth defects involving the spinal cord. And long-term opioid use in late pregnancy can lead to withdrawal effects in the newborn.
That's because opioids cross the placenta...so when mom takes a dose, baby gets a dose too. But after birth, the baby goes "cold turkey"...leading to opioid withdrawal.
