Lokelma (loh-KEL-mah) and Veltassa (vel-TAS-sah) will be new Rx options to treat chronic high potassium levels, or hyperkalemia.

Think of Lokelma (sodium zirconium cyclosilicate) and Veltassa (patiromer) as similar to sodium polystyrene sulfonate (Kayexalate, etc) or calcium polystyrene sulfonate (Resonium Calcium).

They're all "potassium binders" that bring down potassium levels by binding potassium in the gut...and removing it from the body.
