There's confusion about the different OTC alcohols.
Ethyl alcohol or ethanol is not just for spiking the punch. The OTC version is used as an antiseptic to kill germs...but acetone or other bitter substances are added during production to prevent patients from drinking it.
Isopropyl alcohol works slightly better than ethyl alcohol as an antiseptic...but it's more drying and irritating to the skin.
