Many patients don't realize how much sodium is in some effervescent products...Alka-Seltzer, Arthrimin GS, Redoxon, etc.

Sodium bicarbonate is often added to create the fizz...but it adds lots of sodium. For example, Alka-Seltzer has 567 mg of sodium per tablet...Redoxon (vitamin C) 224 mg per tablet...Gramcal 125 mg per tablet...and Arthrimin GS 400 mg per pouch.

Too much sodium can increase blood pressure. Most people should limit their sodium intake to 2000 mg or less per day.
