These Rxs are sometimes given to patients with certain heart problems or artificial joints...due to concerns that mouth bacteria might enter the bloodstream during dental work and infect the heart or joint.
Experts have been moving away from recommending antibiotics to prevent heart infections. Evidence suggests that the antibiotics are usually not helpful.
