Researchers are reporting a significant interaction when verapamil is combined with lovastatin (Mevacor) or simvastatin (Zocor).
Verapamil seems to slow the metabolism of lovastatin and simvastatin...allowing their levels to build up.
A similar interaction can also occur when these two statins are combined with erythromycin...clarithromycin...ketoconazole...itraconazole...nefazodone...cyclosporine...or grapefruit juice.
